1. Cast Iron:

This method is known as casting, and it provides flexibility in the shape and complexity of cast iron objects.

2. Steel:
Steel can be manufactured through various methods including open hearth, basic oxygen, or electric arc furnace techniques. Initially, iron ore undergoes smelting to extract iron, which is then combined with carbon and other alloying elements. The molten steel is continuously cast into slabs, blooms, or billets, which are subsequently rolled or forged into desired shapes and sizes.

Common Uses:
1. Cast Iron:
Cast iron's hardness and resistance to wear make it ideal for applications requiring durability such as engine blocks, pipes, cookware, and machine bases. Its excellent heat retention capabilities also suit it for use in stoves, fireplaces, and industrial furnaces.

2. Steel:

The wide range of properties possessed by steel makes it suitable for diverse applications. It serves as a fundamental building material for structures like bridges, buildings, and vehicles where strength and reliability are paramount. Additionally, high-strength steel finds its place in manufacturing machinery, tools, cutlery, automotive components, and even surgical instruments.

While both cast iron and steel share some similarities due to their iron base, they possess distinct characteristics that make each material preferable in different situations. Cast iron offers exceptional hardness but lacks ductility, while steel balances strength, toughness, and versatility.
